Redfox is shutting down

I have handed in the grades (which by the way were done THURSDAY, but the damn online system was down due to volume, don't we forsee that happening oh round about this time in the semester? why don't we do something about it?) and evidently the little switch in my head that is in charge of getting things done, has flipped off. Now mind you that switch is pretty tricky during normal hours, sometimes it doesn't like to flip one way or the other. However today after the grades went it, I could almost hear the tricky bastard flip and the powergrid just caved. I am in no way, shape or form interested in doing any work. None. I suspect I can be persuaded to do work at home, like laundry, bathroom cleaning, vaccuming etc. Why would I want to do that instead of say clean up my office? I don't know, its vaguely mindless tasks, and I get a nice sense of accomplishment and I can watch stupid TV intermittently. Though I know were I at home, I probably wouldn't want to do those things either. It's very much a feeling of apathy. The brain has just checked out for a while.

I've just realized what I really want to do. I want to read. Like the reading for enjoyment kind of reading *gasp* what? Read for purely the FUN OF IT? I think I remember something like that existing many moons ago back in the days when tuition was being paid in stead of being paid to me. Yes I think I will try this radical thing called 'reading for fun'.

Some of my fondest memories of summer were not days at the beach (I grew up in Chicago, and no we did not swim in Lake Michigan), but days spent laying on my bed (always on my tummy with my head facing the footboard) and reading. Devouring books like they were the last things on earth. I would read for hours on end, until my mom made me STOP reading, and do something else, like set the table or something. I think my mom liked that I read, but then she kind of got annoyed with the non movement of it all. I remember the joy of going to the library, it was a never ending supply of new places. As cliche as it sounds, reading really did take me to a different place. Of course I liked reading alot of fantasy in those days and well it was a different place full of elves, gnomes, orcs and goblins. Rangers, Hero's, Kings, heroines, and wizards and witches. It was really incredible. I need to rediscover that, and now that the library is literally within a stones throw (the next building over) and I have a library card (my faculty ID), I think I'll head over, maybe thats what I've been missing.

I think I can hear the power grid warming back up, the lights are buzzing on, the switch has been flipped. Hmmm put away some papers and then I can head to the LIBRARY!! Yippee!

I love summer!!
