Ok, first things first. I went to the library yesterday and after some time of confusion (I'm embarrassed to say I hadn't been to the library in so long that I didn't know how to look up a book title. How sad.) I found the fiction books, though not the title I was after but I wandered till I found something interesting. I also went to the books on CD and found a couple of comics reading their books and thought, "oh good something to entertain me while I do other stuff around the house." So I pick up a couple. One of the comics I picked up was George Carlin. I remember finding George Carlin funny, if irreverent, on lots of topics. I've listened to one CD an honestly, while somewhat entertaining to listen to, I found many of his comments, not so much offensive, but obnoxious. The same obnoxious, crap, whining, rhetoric. I think anyone who knows me knows I can handle laughing at or discussing the flaws of, myself, my religion, my race, blah blah blah. I think I'm a pretty open minded. Mind you I know everyone says that. Who's gonna say "I think I'm a close minded bigot"? No one, however, I think I'm as normal/open minded as any other person. Back to George Carlin, while witty with his word play (I did like that), I think alot of his Bitching (cause make no mistake it is that) is the same crap I've been hearing from students/negative people all semester long and personally I'm really tired of it. I'm no polly anna, but crap, do something or shut your pie hole. I'm so sick of people crapping all over christians. You know what, no one said all christians were perfect, no one tried to claim that believeing in an all mighty being and his son that died for my sins was any easier to believe than UFO's but you know what, thats why its called faith. You don't want to believe, that is your choice. I want to believe, that is my choice, I won't bitch at you for your choice if you don't bitch at me for mine. Why is it ok to say "Don't shove your misguided belief down my throat" But when I say "Don't shove your atheistic belief down my throat" then there's something wrong with that. Look buddy if you have an issue with the Catholic church, that is your issue. You always want "religious" people to respect your choice to not believe, well respect my choice to believe, and quit insulting something thats important to me, do it on your time, not mine and away from me. If you want to hang out with me, shut up about it, if you can't shut up about it then get away from me cause I don't want to hear it.
Also, not all christians claim the more um shall we say "vociferous" of the group. While it is unfortunate that these are the people who get the airtime and set the image, perhaps you should practice that "open mindedness" you seem to profess and realize that not all christians are cookie cutter, we're all different people, and just so you know we don't all check our brains at the door when we enter church. Evidently you seem to check yours when you run into a christian.
Sorry for the rant, but you know this has been bugging me for a long time. It wasn't George Carlin's content that surprised me, I pretty much expected what I got (though not quite so attacking, more funny) but it was my reaction that surprised me I guess.
Anyway, gotta get back to cleaning the kitchen. *sigh*
